Description
AICAR (5-Aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleoside) is an AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activator that mimics the metabolic effects of exercise. This nucleoside analog has been extensively studied as an exercise mimetic.
Mechanism of Action
AICAR is phosphorylated to ZMP (AICA ribotide), which activates AMPK by mimicking AMP binding.
